Abstract :

The reactions of hexaphenyldilead with bifunctional tridentate Schiff bases in 1:2 molar ratio have been studied in the medium of anhydrous benzene. Complexes of the type R3Pb-SBH (where R= -C6H5) have been synthesized. All the reactions were found to be quite facile and lead-lead bond was found to be cleaved in preference to the lead-carbon bond. The resulting derivatives were isolated in the form of yellow solids. They were quite stable in air and not easily attacked by the moisture. They are soluble in DMF and DMSO only.

In these complexes, the lead atom attains a coordination number of six and have octahedral structures.

Abstract :

A Copper sulphate nano particle have been used as ion carriers for the preparation of copper (II) selective membrane sensors. This electrode give near -Nerstian responses in the linear concentration range of 1x 10-1M to 1x10-6 M with detection limits of the order of 10-6 M. The stable potentiometric signals are obtained with in a short time period of 5 seconds. The effect of pH and the effect of medium have been studied found to give better response. Selectivity coefficient values have been evaluated using fixed interference method. The sensors have also been used as an indicator electrode in potentiometric titration of copper (II) ions with EDTA and its determination in Black pepper.

Abstract :

Economic losses due to corrosion are direct, as well as, indirect and affect the economy of country. Corrosion inhibitors are one of the widely used methods to control corrosion. Particular advantage of corrosion inhibitor is that often can be implemented or changed in situation without disturbing a process. Due to toxic nature and high cost of some inhibitors currently in use it is nearly to develop environmentally acceptable and less expensive inhibitors. Natural product can be considered as a good source for this purpose. As evaluation of the performance of acid extract of Ficus benghalensis (FB) bark on the corrosion inhibition of MS in 2N, 3N and 4N hydrochloric acid at different temperatures were studied. Weight loss, electrochemical polarization and impedance measurement techniques were conducted. The efficiency of the inhibitor was noticed to increase with increase in concentration of the inhibitor.

Abstract :

The polarographic determination of stability constants of metal complexes of In(III) with 2-2´ Oxydiacetic acid under varying temperatures, at 300K and 310K and in various aqueous and aqueous non-aqueous media, have shown the formation of 1:1 and 1:2 complexes. The values of overall stability constants of complexes have been calculated by DeFord and Hume's method which is further verified by Mihailov's method. The reduction process was found to be reversible and diffusion controlled involving three electron transfer. The change in thermodynamic parameters DG°, DH°, and DS° accompanying complexation have been also evaluated. It was found that the stability constants of In(III)-2,2´-Oxydiacetic acid system in aqueous non-aqueous medium are greater than in aqueous medium.

Abstract :

The reactions of hexaphenyldilead with monofunctional bidentate Schiff bases in 1:2 molar ratios have been studied in the medium of anhydrous benzene. Complexes of the type R3Pb-SB (where R= -C6H5) have been synthesized. All the reactions were found to be quite facile and lead-lead bond was cleaved in preference to the lead-carbon bond. The resulting derivatives were obtained in the form of yellow solids. The molar conductance measurements show that they are non-electrolytes. In these complexes, the central lead atom probably acquires coordination number of five and have trigonal bipyramidal structures.

Abstract :

Some 2-(substituted phenylimino)-3-(5-substituted phenyl-1, 3, 4-thiadiazol-2-yl)-1, 3-thiazolidin-4-ones were synthesized in good yields by appropriate synthetic route and characterized on the basis of spectral data and elemental analysis. The compounds were evaluated for anticonvulsant activity. The compounds 4a, 4c, 4e, 4f, 4i and 4j were potent in MES test and were less neurotoxic comparable to standard drug phenytoin.

Abstract :

Complexes of Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) with Schiff bases derived from 4-methyl, 1-2-dihydro-2-oxoquinazoline have been synthesized. The isolated compounds have been characterized by elemental analysis, molar conductance, magnetic moment and spectral data. On the basis of spectroscopic studies, the Schiff bases, 4-methyl-1-2-dihydro-2-oxoquinazoline semicarbazone [MDOQS] and 4-methyl-1-2-dihydro-2-oxoquinazoline thiosemicarbazone [MDOQT] behaves as a tridentate chelating agent and bonded to the metal ion through amine and imine nitrogen and oxygen/sulphur atoms of either semicarbazone or thiosemicarbazone moiety. The ligands and metal complexes were also screened for antifungal activity.

Abstract :

6,7-bis[3-(4-substitutedphenyl)-4-oxo-thiazolidin-2-ylideneamino] quinoxa line-2,3(1H,4H)-diones (3a-e) have been synthesized by cyclisation of 6,7-bis[3'-aryl thiocarbamido]-quinoxaline-2,3(1H, 4H)-diones (2a-e) in presence of mono-chloroacetic acid, sodium acetate and glacial acetic acid. 6,7-Bis[3'-aryl thiocarbamido]-quinoxaline-2,3(1H,4H) -diones were obtained by reaction of 6,7-diaminoquinoxaline-2,3(1H,4H)-dione with substituted aromatic isothiocyanate. The constitution of the synthesized compounds is supported by IR, 1H NMR, Mass and elemental analysis. The compounds were subjected to preliminary in-vitro evaluation for antitubercular activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37RV strain.

Abstract :

Substituted thiazolidinones have been used as the starting material in the present work. Thiazolidinones contain an active methylene group at 5-position. These methylene groups readily react with aromatic aldehydes to form benzylidene derivatives of the thiazolidinones. These benzylidene derivatives possess unsaturated carbonyl group which are further allowed to react with urea to form different pyrimidine rings after cyclisation.
