Abstract :

The present work is undertaken to make a systematic solution study of the complex formation of lanthanide (III) ions with the Schiff bases synthesized from salicylhydrazide with 1) 4- methoxy benzaldehyde 2) 3,4,5 trimethoxy benzaldehyde.

The interaction between Schiff bases and lanthanide ions like La (III), Ce(III), Pr(III), Nd(III), Sm(III), Eu(III), Gd(III), Tb(III), Dy(III) and Ho(III) has shown 1:1 and 1:2 complex  formation and the trend in logk values shown a break at gadolinium. The complex formation has been determined at 30°±0.1°C potentiometrically in 40% (v/v) Tetrahydrofuran water mixture and 0.1M (NaClO4) ionic strength.

Abstract :

The interaction of sulfa drug sulfathiazole (STZ) with mercury(II) has been analyzed and solid complex was isolated and characterized by elemental and thermal analysis, FT-IR, 1H NMR spectral and electrical conductivity measurements. These studies suggest that the coordination of Hg(IIl with the Nthiazole atom forms stable STZ-Hg(II) complex. The structure of formula Hg(CTZ)2 complex has been proposed. The complex was screened for its activity against Escherichia coli and other microorganisms, showing an appreciable antimicrobial activity with the ligand. We observe greater dissolution rate of complex than pure STZ.

Abstract :

Some zero valent organoplatinum complexes and its oxidative addition products with 2-mercapto benzimidazole (B2TH) and 2-mercapto benzothiazole (BT2TH) have been synthesized and characterized by various physico-chemical methods such as, micro analytical, conductance measurement, magnetic measurement, UV and visible and infrared spectrophotometric studies. The oxidation state of platinum metal after complexation is confirmed by iodometric titraions. The coordination of ligand to platinum metal is assigned through sulphur.

Abstract :

A novel dimeric liquid crystal compound was synthesized containing azobenzenes as mesogenic groups, which are linking by using alkyl chain. The target molecule namely the 1,4-bis[4-(4-acetylphenylazo) phenoxy] butane is obtained and the mesomorphic properties of the compound is determined. The differential scanning calorimetry and polarizing optical microscopy measurements confirm the existence of smectic A phase.

Abstract :

6-(3'-nitrophenyl)-4-substituted benzylidine-2,3,5-trihydro pyridazin-3-one derivatives are synthesized from 6-(3'-nitrophenyl)-2,3,4,5-tetrahydro pyridazin-3-one by reaction with substiuted aldehydes. Friedal craft acylation of benzene in presence of anhydrous aluminium chloride yield ß-benzoyl propionic acid. After nitration with H2SO4 and HNO3 of the propionic acid yield ß -m-nitrobenzoyl propionic acid, which is cyclised with hydrazine hydrate to form 6-(3'-nitrophenyt)-2,3,4,5-tetrahydro pyridazin-3-one. Ali the

final synthesized compounds are evaluated for anticonvulsant activity by MES (maximal electro shock) method.

Abstract :

(11Z)-11-(4-Substitutedphenyl) dibenzo[b,f][1,4]diazocin-6(5H)-ones (2a-e) have been synthesized. The substituents at fourth position of the phenyl ring for initial and final set of compounds have been selected according to Topliss modified approach. The synthesized compounds were structurally characterized by TLC, elemental analysis, IR and NMR spectra studies. The anticonvulsant potential of synthesized compounds was evaluated by using Rotarod, Actophotometer and Electroconvulsometer. The anticonvulsant activity evaluation of initial set of compounds (2a-d) revealed that electron releasing substituents with high lipophilicity if placed at fourth position in phenyl ring should increase the anticonvulsant activity. Based on this observation, 4-dimethylamino substituted compound (2e) was synthesized and found to have increased activity.

Abstract :

Three medicinal plants viz Azadirachta indica A. Juss, Catharanthus roseus (L) G. Don and Curcuma longa L. were tested for their antibacterial efficacy against Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumoniae via extracts obtained from soxhlation using petroleum ether, benzene, acetone and ethanol as solvents. The in-vitro antibacterial activity was performed by disc diffusion method. Among these extracts, ethanol has been found to be effective one. The ethanolic extract of all the plants were more active against both the bacterial pathogens. Maximum zone of inhibition 15 mm was recorded in Azadirachta indica. A. Juss against Staphylococcus aureus whereas it was 14 mm against Klebsiella pneumoniae showing that it is the most effective plant extract among the three plants used.
