The final 4-thiazolidinone derivatives (4a-r) were synthesized from methyl acrylate/methmethyl acrylate and studied in vitro for antifungal activity against A. niger, C. albicans, A. flavus, T. rubrum, A. fumigatus and P. citrinium at the concentration of 40, 80 and 160 µg/ml. These compounds showed good antifungal activity. Compound 4a with p-chloro substitution at both the phenyl ring showed activity even better than the used standard drug, Voriconazole.

Initially the ionophoretic technique was limited for separation purpose in Biology and chemistry. In 1964, the Jokl extended it to the qualitative study of simple Inorganic complexes. Now the techniques has been proved as a handy tool for the study of coordination compounds in solution. Authors research group has successfully and widely applied electrophoretic method with drastic modifications to the quantitative assessment of equilibrium constants of some inorganic complexation reactions. The present work reports some of our obser vations for Th (IV), Fe (III), Cr (III) and A1 (III)- Cysteine complexes.
The acid or base-catalysed aldol condensation of 2-hydroxy acetophenone with substituted benzaldehyde and anisaldehyde, furnish substituted chalcone.

Samples from Litany, Ibrahim and Damour river sources are subjected to chemical, physicochemical and microbiological analysis during the summer. Phosphate values were high and all the samples show bacterial population. The ammonia and nitrite levels are high in Litany River at Jibjanin while the nitrate level is low, this reflect the dominance of anaerobic condition and heavy pollution. Comparatively a better water quality was found in Quaroun Lake reflecting the effects of natural treatment of water. Heavy metals such as lead and cadmium have been detected in Quaroun Lake and Ibrahim river.
3-[41-Arylidene-21-phenyl-5 1-oxo-imidazolin-11yl] - 2 - phenyl-4(3H)- quinazolinones (3) have been prepared by reacting 3-amino-2- Pheny1-4 (3H)- quinazolinones (1) with azlactones (2). The compounds were screened for their fungicidal activity against F. oxysporium and C. Saccharii.
The aspect on novel azo acid dyes containing benzthiazole and phenacyl moeties has been undertaken. The novel aromatic amine containing benzthiazole and phenacyl groups has been prepared. This was diazotizsed and coupled with different coupling components. All the resulting novel acid dyes have been characterized by elemental analysis IR,NMR visible Spectroscopy. The produced acid dyes were employed for dyeing on commercial nylon and wool fibres and the fastness properties of dyes were evaluated.
A simple and precise spectrophotometric method coupled with solvent extraction is used for determination of trace concentration of Pd(II) using Hexane-2,5-dione-bis-(ethylenediamine) as a novel analytical reagent. The reagent forms a stable pink complex which is quantitatively extracted at pH 3.5. The absorption spectrum of Pd:HDBE complex in chloroform exhibits absorption peak at 474 nm. Beer's law is obeyed in the range of 2- 20 ppm. Molar absorptivity & Sandell sensitivity calculated as 0.750x104 L mol-1cm-1 and 3.6x10-5µg cm-1 respectively. Stoichiometric ratio of Pd:HDBE was 1:2 ascertained by Job's method, mole ratio method and slope ratio method . Effect of diverse ions is also reported. The newly proposed method is applied for estimation of Pd at trace level.
Key words : Hexane-2, 5-dione-bis(ethylenediamine), absorption spectrum, diverse ions.
The terpolymer resins have been synthesized by the condensation of 2,4-dihydroxypropiophenone with biuret and formaldehyde in the presence of 2M HCl as catalyst with varying proportion of reactants. Thermal decomposition curve are discussed with careful attention of minute details. The Freeman-Caroll and Sharp-Wentworth method have been used to calculate thermal activation energy and thermal stability. Thermal activation energy (Ea) calculated with these methods are in agreement with each other. Thermodynamic parameter such as free energy change (DF), entropy change (DS), apperant entropy change (S*) and frequency factor, (Z) are also determined on the basis of TG-curve and using data of Freeman-Caroll method. The order of thermal stability of terpolymer has been determined by using TGA.
Electro-organic Synthesis of 3,3'-bis( hydroxymethyl)hydrazobenzene has been carried out by the electro reduction of m-nitrobenzaldehyde has been studied at copper and amalgamated forms of copper and zinc electrodes under alkaline conditions using galvanostatic techniques. Isolated product was characterized by T.L.C., usual laboratory qualitative tests and IR, NMR spectral analysis to be 3,3'-bis (hydroxymethyl) hydrazobenzene. Effect of different parameters like current density, temperature, depolarizer concentration and nature of cathode material on yield percentage and current efficiency have been investigated. Number of electrons have also been calculated to confirm the isolated product to be 3,3'-bis(hydroxymethyl) hydrazobenzene.
Atenolol [RS),4-{2-hydroxy-3-isopropylaminopropoxy}phenylacetamide] is an antihypertensive drug, used primarily in cardiovascular diseases. The simple complexes of this drug with Pb(II) have been studied by direct current polarography at 25°C and 35°C. The reduction of all complexes is found to be reversible and diffusion controlled involving 2e_ in each case. Deford and Hume's treatment suggests that Atenolol forms 1 : 2 complexes (metal to ligand molar ratio) at 25°C and 35°C. Two very stable complexes PbR+ and PbR2 are identified at two temperatures at µ = 1 (1M KNO3). The values of overall formation constant (log b) obtained are 4.8448, 7.8644 at 25°C and 4.6976, 7.6732 at 35°C. The thermodynamic parameters (DG°, DH°, DS°) have also been reported.
