Abstract :

Isonicotinic acid hydrazide (INH) forms stable solid complexes at various pH with Zr (IV) salts having general formula [Zr(INH)2A2]X2 (A = H2O/OH/Py/ SO4; X = NO3/Cl). Trans-octahedral configuration of complexes have been assigned using analytical, conductometric, magnetic moment, IR and electronic spectral studies and ligand acts as bidentate (N, O) donor.

Abstract :

The present investigation deals with the utilization of Blue Green Algae (BGA) as adsorbent for the removal of Acid Violet from aqueous solution. A series of experiments were conducted in a batch system to evaluate the effect of system variables. Adsorption kinetic data were tested using Intra-particle diffusion model and Elovich’s equation. Studies revealed that the Intraparticle diffusion played an important role in the mechanism of dye adsorption

Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Applied Sciences, Umm AL-Qura University, P.O Box 7605, Makkah,
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Abstract :

A Simple, sensitive, accurate and rapid analytical method for simultaneous separation and determination of inorganic acions  (F ,Cl ,NO ,Br ,NO ,HPO ,SO and I  ,) and organic acids (acetic acid, formic acid, succinic acid, tartaric acid, malic acid, oxalic acid and fumric acid) was developed by using suppressed conductimetric ion chromatognaphy. The separation was achieved on shim-pack 1C-SA2 250 mmL  4.5 mm ID Peak with a mobile phase consisting of 0.6 mM potassium carbonate + 12 mM potassium hydrogen carbonate + 0.0125mM N – {[(ethylamino ) thioxomethyl] hydrazine carbonylmethyl} trimethyl ammonium chloride (ETHTC), a flow rate of 1 ml / min and 30ºC. Under the optimal conditions the eight inorganic anions and the seven organic acids were completely separated and detected simultaneously within 20. 367 min. The limit of detection (S/ N=3) of inorganic anions and organic acids were in the range of 0.9992 – 0.9998 μg/L and 0.9991 – 0.9998, respectively and the relative standard deviation (RSD %) of all ions found to be below 1.36%. The method was applied successfully to the analysis of Roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) sample.

Abstract :

Low grade graphite ore containing 14-15% fixed carbon (F.C) from Tamilnadu Minerals Limited (TAMIN) have been investigated for beneficiation. It responds well to the flotation technique. The existing graphite beneficiation plant has the capacity to process 200 tons of ore per day to yield graphite concentrate with fixed carbon content of 84 to 96% purity and recovery of 80 to 88 %. The representative sample collected from the plant in 15 days duration is matching well with the feed quality of plant. The rod mill discharge sample proximate analysis of each size fraction was carried out on dry basis. Kinetic flotation study of Methyl Isobutyl Carbinol (MIBC) and ethyl alcohol 90:10 with kerosene 10:90 ratio reagent dosages gives better recovery and assay. Similarly the above reagent dosage gives rapid flotation rate. Beneficiation studies indicated that the percent recovery of final lock cycle test is 85% and fixed carbon content of floatation concentrate is 96.24%. The +72 mesh size of float concentrate is 25.2% which is meeting as per the requirement. Bench-scale flotation test shows that it is possible to obtain a maximum grade of 97% F.C, with a recovery of 89%.

Abstract :

Various acoustic parameters such as isentropic compressibility (s) intermolecular free length (Lf) apparent molar volume (), apparent molar compressibility y (k) molar compressibility (w), molar sound velocity (R), acoustic impedance (z) of Cu(NO3)2 in 10%, 20% and 30% Propan-2-ol + water at 303.15K have been determined from ultrasonic velocity (V), density () and relative viscosity (r) of the solution. These parameters are related with the molar concentration of the solution and reflects the distortion of the structure of the solvent. (i.e., Propan-2-ol + water) when the solute is added to it.

Inhibition of the Corrosion of Iron in Citric acid solutions by Aqueous extract of Fenugreek seeds
ALKA SINGH* and KALPANA. S

Electrochemistry & Environmental Chemistry Laboratory Department of Chemistry Government College, Kota - 324001 (Rajasthan) (INDIA)
alkasingh.1974@yahoo.com

Abstract :

Gravimetric method has been used to study the effect of Aqueous extract of Fenugreek seed (AEFS) on the corrosion of Iron in Citric Acid solutions. The percentage inhibition increased with the increase of the concentration of the inhibitor in the studied range. The inhibition efficiency decreases with increase in temperature. The adsorption of AEFS on Iron surface obeys the Langmuir adsorption isotherm and the kinetic parameters for the adsorption of this inhibitor on the metal surface are calculated by using the Arrhenius equation. The Aqueous extract of Fenugreek seeds is observed as a good corrosion inhibitor in Citric Acid solutions at experimental conditions

Reaction Co-ordinates of Ene Reactions in Configuration Space

Department of Chemistry, University College, Thiruvananthapuram-695034, Kerala (INDIA)
e-mail : drmksdharuc@hotmail.com

Abstract :

The ene reaction proceeds through a concerted mechanism in which H of the alkene is transferred to the enophile while another bond is formed and the π bond migrates within the ene fragment. Concerted electron shift results in the cyclic transition state, which are stabilized by favourable orbital interactions. The molecular instances of ene reaction in selected systems were studied with a focus on the relationship among their properties, geometries and associated electronic delocalization. Relation between the HOMO-LUMO energy gap and electronegativity of hetero atom with activation energy were computed. Ab initio studies on ene reactions between propene and (i) ethene (ii) iminomethane and (iii) methanal were performed using GAMMES suite of programmes by geometry optimization method. Transition state geometries were located and confirmed by frequency calculations at B3LYP/aug-cc-pVDZ level of theory. The bond lengths, bond angles, dihedral angles and energetics of the optimized structures are reported. It is found that the hydrogen bond shrinks with the increase in electronegativity of the reaction centre of the enophile.

Abstract :

6-Amino-3-aryl-s-triazolo [3,4-b]-1,3,4-thiadiazoles (IIa-c) were obtained from 3-aryl-4-amino-5-mercapto-s-triazoles (Ia-c) by treating it with cynogen bromide in ethanol. Which in turn were treated with aromatic aldehydes to gives 3-aryl-6-(arylideneamino)-s-triazole-[3,4-b]- 1,3,4-thiadiazoles (IIIa-f). Compounds III were further treated with aryl isothiocyanates to yield 3,4,6-triaryl-s-triazolo [3,4-b]-1,3,4-thiadiazolo-[3,2- b]-s-triazine-5-thiones (IVa-r). Structure of all these unknown compounds were confirmed by their spectral studies and elemental analysis. The compounds (IVa-r) were screened for their antifungal activity against Phytophthora infestans and Aspergillus niger.
