Abstract :

Polyvinyl alcohol has various applications in the food industries as a binding and coating agent. It is a film coating agent specially in applications where moisture barrier protection properties are required. Polyvinyl alcohol protects the active ingredients from moisture, oxygen and other environmental components, while simultaneously masking their taste and odor. The obtained films were transparent and homogenous with enhanced mechanical properties and thermal stability1- 4. In recent years water-soluble polymers are gaining more and more interest in different applications. One of the most widely used water-soluble polymers is polyvinyl alcohol polymer (PVA). For more than 70 years it is applied in a variety of applications in medicine, pharmacy, cosmetics and industrial production5-10. PVA binds to polar molecules exceptionally well.

The physico-chemical characterization and compatibility of Water-soluble synthetic polymers were analyzed by means of FT-IR spectroscopy, TGA, HPLC and UV visible spectrophotometer.

Determination of WQI of River Yamuna Between Mathura and Agra Region
ATUL KUMAR, R.C. SHARMA and BABITA RATHORE

Department of Chemistry, CMJ university, Shillong, Meghalaya India

Abstract :

The present study was intended to calculate Water Quality Index (WQI) of five sample stations of river Yamuna from upstream of Mathura and downstream of Agra over a period of about one year from April 2002 to Jan 2003.

WQI, indicating the water quality in terms of index number, offers a useful representation of overall quality of water for public or for any intended use as well as in the pollution abatement programmes and in water quality management. A number of parameters affect the usability of water for a particular purpose. In this study water quality index (WQI) was determined on the basis of four physico-chemical parameters viz. pH, D.O., B.O.D and chloride.

On the basis of observations and results the water quality index value of upstream of Mathura and Agra has been found to be superior to other selected point but not suitable for drinking purpose.

Department of Chemistry, Govt. M.V.M Bhopal India

Email:-darmukhtarchem@gmail.com

Abstract :

A series of 4β-substituted-1,2,3-triazole-thiazolidinedione hybrids of podophyllotoxin were synthesized by employing click chemistry approach. The terminal alkynes were prepared in two steps, the first step employs Knoevenagel condensation and the second step involves propargylation. These terminal alkynes were then condensed with azidopodophyllotoxin under click chemistry reaction conditions to get a series of target compounds. All these compounds were screened for their anticancer activity against two human cancer cell lines using sulforhodamine B assay and showed significant activities against both cancer cell lines.

Abstract :

Neat non-volatile amines react efficiently with various aromatic aldehydes in the absence of any catalyst, to give imines. The reactions did not require any additives and were effective for a wide range of amines.
