Determination of isoelectricpoint of certain a-amino acids by ultrasonic method
S. Chidambara Vinayagam

Post Graduate and Research Department of Chemistry, Presidency College Chennai India

Abstract :

Ultrasonic velocities (U) and densities (r) are measured for solution containing glutamine, methionine and serine, at different pH. The variation in ultrasonic velocity values have been used to determine the isoelectric point at 303K. Acoustical parameters such as adiabatic compressibility (k), free length (Lf), apparent molal compressibility (fk), available volume (Va), acoustical impedance (z) are also calculated. These values are supported by conductivity measurements.

Abstract :

Studies of Tl(I) complexes with L-Threonine have been carried out by polarographic method in aqueous-nonaqueous (20%, 40%, 60% DMSO) medium under varying temperatures at 308K and 318K in presence of potassium nitrate as supporting electrolyte. The reduction of Tl(I) was found to be reversible and diffusion controlled in aqueous-nonaqueous medium for L-Threonine ligand and have shown the formation of 1:1 and 1:2 complexes. DeFord and Hume's method as modified by Irving has been applied for the determination of composition and stability constants of complex species and the mathematical Mihailov's method has also been applied for the determination of composition and stability constants of complex species and the mathematical Mihailov's method ahs also been applied for the comparison of stability constant values. The changes in thermodynamic parameters DH°, DG° and DS° have been evaluated.

Abstract :

In this paper, the swelling kinetics of the hydrogels with various particle sizes was preliminary investigated as well. The swelling of the hydrogel showed a second order kinetics of swelling in water. In addition, swelling measurements of the synthesized hydrogels in various chloride salt solutions was measured. Results indicated that a swelling-loss with an increase in the ionic strength of the salt solutions.

Abstract :

The -oxo-bridged vanadium (V) and monomeric oxo-vanadium (IV) complexes with isonicotinic acid hydrazide have been prepared and characterized on the basis of elemental analysis, molar conductance, spectral studies (IR & UV vis) and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The distorted octahedral geometry for oxo-vanadium (IV) is consistent with electronic spectral data. The cis VO2 structure forces the ligand to coordinate in a non-planar fashion to allow better O(Pp) V(dp) bonding.

Abstract :

In this article, we synthesize of a novel starch-based superabsorbent hydrogel via graft copolymerization of mixtures of acrylic acid (AA) and 2-Hydroxy ethyl methacrylate (HEMA) onto starch backbones. The polymerization reaction was carried out in an aqueous medium and in the presence of ammonium persulfate (APS) as an initiator and N,N'-methylene bisacrylamide (MBA) as a crosslinker. The hydrogel structures were confirmed by FTIR spectroscopy. Furthermore, the swelling of superabsorbing hydrogels was examined in solutions with pH values ranging between 1 and 13. It showed a reversible pH-responsive behavior at pHs 2 and 8. This on-off switching behavior makes the synthesized hydrogels as an excellent candidate for controlled delivery of bioactive agents. A proposed mechanism for hydrogel formation was suggested and the structure of the product was established using FTIR and SEM spectroscopies.

Abstract :

Refractive index ,molar refractivities and molar polarizability constant of heterocyclic compounds such as (2S,3aS,6aS)-1-[(2S)-2-{[(2S)-1-ethoxy-1-oxo-4-phenylbutan-2-yl]amino}propanoyl] -octahydrocyclopenta[b]pyrrole-2-carboxylic acid(Ramipril) in 30% dioxane media at 303 K ± 0.1oC temperature and different concentrations ( 0.625x10-3 to10.0x 10-3M ).The values of molar refraction (Rm) and molar polarizability (á) constant are found to be decreased with decreasing concentration of solute in solvent. Viscosity coefficient (A, B) evaluate by using johndole equation. These parameters throw the light on the solute-solvent interaction and solute-solute interaction.

Abstract :

Some new tetrahedral compounds of Pd(O) have been prepared using precursor Pd(Pf3)4 ligated by paramethoxy and paraethoxy derivatives of 1-phenyl tetrazoline-5-thione. The solid oxidative addition products with inorganic acids have also been isolated and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, electronic, `H NMR, 31P NMR spectral and other physico-chemical data. Trans-square planar configuration to all Pd(II) complexes are tentatively assigned.

Abstract :

Present communication deals with study of physico-chemical parameters such as pH, Electrical Conductivity (EC), Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Total Alkalinity (TA), Calcium Hardness (CaH), Magnesium Hardness (MgH), Total Hardness (TH), Chloride (Cl-), Fluoride (F-), Sulphate (SO4 2-), Dissolved Oxygen (DO), Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) of ground water samples of eight sampling points in Vidisha district of Madhya Pradesh state, India. The ground water is generally used for drinking and irrigation purposes in Vidisha. So we carried out a study to assess the suitability of ground water quality of Vidisha district for drinking and irrigation purposes. Also the study is carried out to see the impact of locality around the bore on its water quality. For studying the impact of locality on ground water quality the sampling stations selected are having different identified locations which covered commercial, industrial, residential and agricultural area. The statistical analysis of water quality parameters have also been carried out. The experimental values of water samples were compared with standard values given by World Health Organization (WHO). The statistical analysis like mean, standard deviation (SD) and percentage Coefficient of Variance (%CV) of obtained data were carried out. The results show that the quality of water at some stations is poor, which can be used for irrigation purpose and after treatment can also be used for potable purposes, and at some stations ground water quality is quite good which can be directly used for potable purposes.

Abstract :

Series of zinc-aluminium-carbonate-layered double hydroxides (ZAC-LDHs) were synthesized by co-precipitation method at different Zn/Al molar ratios (R = 112). The pH was kept constant by the titration of sodium carbonate at pH=7.00 ± 0.05. The as-prepared ZAC-LDHs were then characterized by using Powder X-ray Diffraction (PXRD), Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR), Inductively Couple Plasma-Atomic Emission Spectrometry (ICP-AES) and Carbon, Hydrogen, Nitrogen, Sulfur (CHNS) analyses. XRD patterns of the ZAC-LDHs showed the typical basal spacing value of CO32- ion containing LDH of 0.75 nm. The pure phase of LDH was obtained up to ratio 3; however as the Zn/Al molar ratios increases, the intensity and the sharpness of the peaks decrease thus lessen the crystallinity.
