Abstract :

A kinetic study of oxidation of acetic acid has been investigated in presence and absence of anionic micelle; sodium lauryl sulphate (NaLS). The reaction is a double stage process, in which first stage is followed by second fast stage process. It is observed that the rate was increased in the presence of surfactant. A first order kinetics is observed with respect to substrate and oxidant. The data has been examined in the light of Zucker - Hammett, Bunnett and Bunnett-Olsen criteria of reaction mechanism. The stiochiometry was observed to be in terms of mole ratio of permanganate ion and acetic acid consumed. Effect of specific ion on the reaction rate has also been reported. Activation parameters for the reaction are evaluated and the plausible mechanism is suggested.

Abstract :

Micronutrients, also known as “trace elements” are essential in small quantities for the growth of plants. Fe, Mn, Zn, Cu, B, Mo, Co and Cl2 are considered as micronutrients. These micronutrients may produce synergetic and antagonistic effects in plants, if they are present in excess or in deficiency level in the soil. In this study an attempt has been made to assess the micronutrient status of Fe, Mn, Zn and Cu in Nagapattinam taluk of Nagapattinam district in Tamilnadu state. Surface soil samples depth (0 – 20 cm) numbering 425 from 85 revenue villages, five samples were collected from each revenue village. The study area covers 30,231 hectares of land. The basic physico –chemical parameters pH, EC and OC were calculated in the study area. Assess the micronutrient status by using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer. By using the critical levels fixed by earlier workers for DTPA (Diethylene Triamine Penta Acetic acid) extractable micronutrients in Tamilnadu soils, the percentage deficiencies of individual nutrients were calculated in each revenue village. The results revealed that the order of mean status of available micronutrients was found to be Fe(5.14mg kg-1) > Mn(3.23 mg kg-1) > Cu(1.27 mg kg-1) > Zn(0.91 mg kg-1) on the average basis 65.88, 45.88, 62.22 and 86.98 percent soils were found to be deficient in Fe,Mn,Cu and Zn respectively. From the results of the analysis of soil samples, concrete suggestions can be made to improve the soil quality and crop production.

Email:-nbselukar@gmail.com

Abstract :

All the petroleum products like gasoline, kerosene, diesel, lubricating oils etc. are evaluated on the basis of various properties as given by Institute of Petroleum or ASTM. These includes specific gravity, viscosity, aniline point, carbon residue, ASTM distillation, cetane number, octane number, volatility, flash point, smoke point, diesel index etc. But a petroleum product cannot be identified with a single test and all the related properties prescribed for the product has to be carried out, to identify that product.

A work is carried out for identification of petroleum adulteration in case of diesel adulteration in lubricating oil. For this various properties of these adulterated samples along with ultrasonic velocity were carried out. It is observed that as the molecule weight or specific gravity of sample increases, the ultrasonic velocity is also found to be increases.

Thus, this characteristic can be used to evaluate petroleum samples and its blends.

Abstract :

The effect of mixed aqueous solvent, propan-1-ol on alkaline hydrolysis of methyl nicotinate was studied at various solvent composition at temperature ranges from 250C to 450C. Various thermodynamic activation parameters such as G*, H* and S*, isocomposition activation energy and the effect of dielectric constant on rate of reaction are evaluated to understand the mechanism of solvent effect on methyl nicotinate.

Abstract :

Synthesis, characterization and anti-microbial activity of some novel di and triphenyltin(IV) complexes of anthranilic acid are reported. The infrared, 1H NMR, elemental analysis and other physico-chemical data are made for structural determination. Spectroscopic data reveals that anthranilic acid acts as mono negative bidentate anion and bonding occurs through both amino nitrogen and carbohydrate oxygen. On the basis of spectroscopic data octahedral geometry is proposed for synthesized compounds. The synthesized compounds have been tested against various microorganisms and the synthesized compounds have higher activity than parent anthranilic acid.

Email:-sandeep.gohar@gmail.com

Abstract :

Thin films of Cobalt containing Iron-Molybdenum of variable composition have been prepared by the electrochemical codeposition under the potentiostatic control to study their corrosion behaviour in sodium chloride, sulphuric acid and hydrochloric acid solutions. Thickness of different samples with different concentration of cobalt has been determined. Current-Voltage studies have been carried out for the construction of Tafel Plot to determine the corrosion rate and corrosion current. Grain size and stress on the thin film surface is also determined. The instrumental analysis of prepared samples has been done by SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) and Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy (EDAX analysis) for the morphological and structural studies while the elemental composition is determined by XRay Diffraction (XRD) studies of the prepared thin films.

Abstract :

A number of metal chelates containing Hg-Hg bond with methyl derivatives of 1-phenyl tetrazoline-5-thione have been prepared and characterized using elemental analysis, conductometric, magnetic, IR, UV-vis and 'H NMR Spectral data. All thioamide ligands act as bidentate (N, S) and no disproprotionation of Hg(I) occurs during complex formation.

Polarographic Study of Mixed Ligand complexes of Pb (II) and Tl (I) with thioglycerol and Some Amino Acids in 20%(v/v) acetonitrile medium
K.K. GUPTA, TEJINDER KAUR and EKTA DADHICH

P.G.Department of Chemistry Government College Kota Rajasthan India

Abstract :

The mixed ligand complexes of Pb (II) and Tl (I) with TG in acetonitrile with some amino acids (Glutamic Acid, Aspargine, Glycine and L-methionine) have been investigated at the dropping mercury electrode (DME) at constant ionic strength KNO3 ( =1.0m) and 303 ± 2K temperature. Triton x-100 (0.002%) was used as maximum suppressor. The reduction of Pb (II) and Tl (I) were found to be reversible and diffusion controlled, involving two electrons [Pb(II)] and one electron [Tl(I)] respectively. It was found that only a single mixed ligand entity MAiXj is formed. The stability constants have been evaluated by Souchay and Faucherre’s method.
